Clarification on an allegation made at the Ed Forum

Post by greg parker on Thu 05 Jan 2017, 9:24 pm

On an Ed Forum thread asking what happened to the ROKC WEBS website, Larry Schnapf made the following comment:

"I don't think it is appropriate to ask for credit card information to validate account. what happens if the site is hacked? The owner of the site should reconsider this option."

http://educationforum.ipbhost.com/index.php?/topic/23325-whats-wrong-with-the-rokc-website/

It's not entirely clear whether Larry is talking about ROKC or the Ed Forum, but since the thread is about ROKC, I have to assume he is talking about us. Or me specifically as the owner.

Now I don't really know Larry from Moe or Curly, and have had just one brief "chat" with him, but I have no reason to suspect any malice on his part.

But the fact is, what he says is NOT true of me or ROKC and it is potentially damaging to this place and to my personal reputation.

Since I cannot post at the Ed Forum, I really would appreciate someone setting the record straight over there.

Thanks!

I think he is referring to the message on the webs forum that the site has expired. It asks site owner to click to renew the site or something. When one does that it might ask for credit card info to verify that one is the site owner or something.I think he clicked on that link and got confused.

Basically I guess it is meant for you as owner  if you wish to renew the webs forum. For which you have to pay using your credit card

Vinnie, it does not ask for credit card details to verify ownership. The owner is assumed to be the person logging in to the admin account, so if that is what he meant, I'm not sure how he came to that conclusion because it has no basis - and if I misunderstood his message, it's possible others may have as well.
