Help with file transfer protocol download

Post by Hasan Yusuf on Fri 18 Jul 2014, 12:27 am

Guys,

Jim DiEugenio has asked me to become the new webmaster for CTKA, as John Kelin (the current webmaster) is stepping down. In order to add/edit articles and reviews posted there, I will need to log on using a file transfer protocol tool. John emailed me a link to an FTP tool known as filezilla, which I downloaded to my Toshiba laptop, which runs on Windows 7 and has internet explorer as the web browser.

Unfortunately, it didn't work, so I would like to ask any member here who is knowledgeable about this stuff to please give me a link to an FTP tool which will enable me to edit the CTKA website. John has informed me that the information I will need to log on is the host name, user name, and password.

Thanks in advance for any help that can be given to me.

Hasan Yusuf

Congrats, Hasan! Maybe you can convince Bob the deer abuser to submit his much awaited article there.
Sorry mate. I know bugger all about FTP. Try youtube for some training videos. My son swears by them.

Hasan,

I used to use CuteFTP - it was cheap and efficient, but it costs money.

Surely there has to be a freebie downloadable.

Hasan,

you could also ask at the filezilla help forum why it's not working for you. I can't see why it shouldn't. https://forum.filezilla-project.org/

Well done, and good luck with it, matey. If being a mod here becomes too much on top of that, let me know.

Thanks for your advice and support, guys. Bob the deer abuser must be feeling extremely hesitant to write any article for CTKA. Too bad. Greg, I don't think my being web master of CTKA will clash with being a moderator here. But I'll let you know if it's too much for me to handle.

Thanks. The good news is that I managed to get Filezilla working, and I now have access to the CTKA server. Now it's only a matter of getting the hang of it all.

Brilliant, Hasan. You'd think they'd just be happy all our photo interpretationing went quiet (due to overload of our brain circuits).

Hasan, in future when you post something from David Josephs, make sure to give warning to those who may have a risk of epileptic seizure. I'd rather be exposed to strobe light.
Just trying to make the website safer for all to use.

I doubt David Josephs wrote that.

No spelling mistakes and there are a few commas.

Hasan Yusuf is not in font sized 350.  It's big -- but not big enough.

Plus, where the dancing man with the emoticon face?

I'm pretty sure it's illegal in most countries to impersonate a Fez.

I must have missed it, Greg, but why is he referred to as the 'Fez", capital letters and all?

Paul, it's a mystery wrapped in a puzzle inside an enigma.

To unlock it, you have to crack the mind of Stan.

I'll keep referring to him as DJ. Easier and safer than cracking the mind of Stan.
I met with him before his conversion to Harvey&Lee-inanity. He seemed like such a nice young man.

You can call him DH (dickhead) if you like. Perfectly acceptable. The idea for the Fez came from a discussion I had with Dan a few months ago in the claims, claims, and more claims thread. And yes, my mind is "cracked."

Just went through the claims thread, Stan. I guess you would be spoiled for choice when it comes to all the things you could have called him. All of them seem perfectly acceptable given the circumstances. I think he got off easy with just The Fez.

True, Alan. But he kind of spoiled Steely Dan for me a little. I won't be able to listen to The Fez without thinking of Josephs.
