The old propaganda video was true back then and even more true today. It is an extraordinary point of vulnerability. I don't know how you could make it completely secure no matter what precautions were taken.

True in the US and in some ways, truer here because were are surrounded 100% by water.
My interest in the Port Security Unit is because Oswald's half-brother, John Pic, was working in it at the time young Lee was living with him in NY. What that video doesn't go into is that the PSU used existing networks of ONI and FBI informants to identify subversives working in the maritime industry. Those people were then denied a permit effectively making them unemployed and (all but) unemployable. There was no investigation of the allegations against those people; no legal redress for them. It was the very epitome of a witch hunt. The Navy now admits more livelihoods were destroyed in that program than any other of the Cold War.
But that's straying a bit "off message"... the networks of informants has me wondering about young Lee's activities on his travels around the city while playing truant, and his disloyalty in refusing to salute the flag in school. Did anyone support him? If so, did they pay a price? Lee's truanting ceased the moment John Pic left the PSU.
