Buell Wesley Frazier's Day Off Empty Buell Wesley Frazier's Day Off

Fri 16 Sep 2016, 2:28 pm
One of my 12 year old sons had an English assignment he needed help with to get started.

He had to write a 1200 word piece on an event or person from history, but in the 1st person through the eyes of a minor character.

What the hell do I know about except the assassination???

So I suggested he write about that from the perspective of Buell Wesley Frazier. Unlike his twin, this one has taken no interest in JFK, so I went through Buell's story verbally with him, and pointed him to some websites as further resources. This is what he came up with:

---------------------

Buell Wesley Frazier's Day Off

It was a two hour drive, but I had finally made it. Goodbye Huntsville; hello Irving. I needed work, and Huntsville wasn’t for me. It’s a prison town; you either work in the prison, or you are a prisoner. My sister Lillie-Mae: God bless her,  invited me to live with her and her family. With Lillie-Mae’s help, I was able to get a job at the Texas School Book Depository in Dallas. It was a crowded house now because there was Lillie, her husband, William, their two kids and our parents. But I love playing games with those kids.

As fate would have it, one of my neighbours also needed a job. Lillie-Mae suggested that he should try and get a job at the same place I work. Lee later applied for the job and got it. I ended up getting into the habit of picking Lee up to bring him to work due to the fact he didn’t drive. We would always talk about the weather and our kids for the fifteen minute drive. Lee had two kids, June and Audrey. I tended to ask everyday about how they were doing. They were usually doing well. He would also ask about my life.

Daily life was normal until the 22nd of November, and I was running late for work because I got caught up playing with my niece and nephew. It was drizzling outside; dull as always this time of year. Lee ended up coming to my place. Lillie-Mae was meanwhile making me lunch in the kitchen when she saw Lee strolling up to my car with a 2-foot long, brown paper parcel. He placed it in the back seat of my car, as I rushed out to drive us to work. On the way to work, it was still  drizzling. We were chatting about my niece and nephew, along with his daughters. When we pulled up to the carpark at work, Lee got out, grabbed his parcel, and walked on ahead, while I was watching the nearby train tracks, where there were some trains being shunted. That darn parcel would give me fifty years of grief. It started up again with the FBI a month later in December. They insisted that I was wrong about the size of the parcel. I argued it wouldn’t be big enough to fit a rifle in. In February the next year, I was questioned by the president’s commission for over half a day, but again, I refused to say what they wanted me to. Then for the next fifty years, I had people wanting to talk to me about what happened. For instance, on the 50th anniversary of the assassination, I was interviewed by The London Daily Mail. One of the questions was what I thought these days. I answered by saying that I doubt that Oswald acted alone and I am sceptical anyone else could have been in the book depository to fire on the Presidential motorcade.

Now I would like to talk about what I did that day. I didn’t see Lee again much after we arrived.  At lunchtime, all of the workers came rushing out to see the president’s motorcade. I stood on the top steps of the building. Because of being over 6-foot tall, I was able to see over everyone. At 12:30, the president came past. Suddenly, there were three loud bangs that sounded like firecrackers. When I realised they were rifle shots, I froze on the spot. I then also realised that I haven’t eaten my lunch, so I went back into the building and rushed down to the basement where I ate alone. After eating, I went up to the first floor where police were everywhere. After a while, they took the names of all the workers and let us go home. My nightmare was about to begin.

I left there and went to visit my father in hospital. Meanwhile, someone had told the police that I was close friends with Lee, and I had driven him to work that morning. They eventually came to the hospital and arrested me. They also dragged in my sister and brother-in-law for questioning. They took a statement from me and suddenly decided to release me. They were driving me home at about 9:00 that night, when the captain of police called the driver via radio, and told him to bring me back in. They had found a brown paper bag that they believed held the rifle that Oswald allegedly used to assassinate the president, and strapped me to a lie detector as they questioned me about this alleged evidence. I told them it didn’t look like the same bag to me. After the test, they refused to tell me whether I passed or not. The captain next slammed a confession in front of me, and wanted me to sign it. When I refused, he made a fist and threatened to punch me. I just kept telling them what they didn’t want to hear, and they ended up letting me go yet again. Funny thing is, years later the polygraph examiner is on record as not recalling conducting the exam at all, and what's more, none of the paperwork could be located. Meanwhile, police were quoted in various books that I passed the test with flying colours.

There’s not a single day that goes by without me thinking about what happened that weekend. Oswald was killed in custody two days after being arrested. I suppose I’m lucky it wasn’t me in his shoes. Even today, I still get people writing to me and phoning me wanting interviews, or even inviting me to conferences to speak. Sometimes I say yes; sometimes I say no. There are lots of crazy theories out there: some people still think I had something to do with it. These interviews and conferences have taken me all over the country. I meet all sorts of people as a result. As for me and people accusing me for doing it, yes, I did own a rifle. But then again, everyone back then in Texas did. Maybe one day the full story will come out; maybe not. Maybe one day they’ll find out that Elvis did it from inside a UFO, or maybe not. Maybe Steven King was right, and someone traveled back in time, but then again, maybe not. Maybe someday someone will ask me the right questions, but then again, maybe not. Maybe someday someone will ask why I chose to eat in that dark old basement alone. Maybe someone will ask why Lillie-Mae told the police about me giving Oswald a lift, and maybe why she sent them tthe wrong hospital? Maybe someone will ask if I was really visiting my father that whole afternoon and evening. Everyone knew I was scared of him. Maybe someone will ask if I really even gave Lee a lift that day. Maybe they’ll ask if I actually gave him a lift away from work that day, instead of him taking a "getaway" bus like they claim. If you don’t ask, I don’t tell. Maybe I’ll write my own book one day, and go on a worldwide book tour, and maybe visit countries like Canada, England, or maybe even Australia, and bring my beautiful wife Betty. I’ve always wanted to hold one of those cute and cuddly koalas…

Buell Wesley Frazier's Day Off Empty Re: Buell Wesley Frazier's Day Off

Fri 16 Sep 2016, 2:45 pm
This has actually helped me come understand what has been staring me in the face.

There was no "rifle case" sack in the alleged sniper's nest. No one among the first group on the scene saw one.

Then Buell mentions Oswald carrying a two foot sack in his affidavit. They let Buell go, but then decide the bag must have contained the rifle. Since it wasn't found, they make their own - bigger than Buell described so it would fit the rifle - then they drag Buell back before he even gets home and try and get him to say it is the bag he saw carried by Lee...

Or allegedly saw carried by Lee.

Either Buell did drive him to work or someone else did. The bag could have been mentioned only in relation to Oswald's usual habit of bringing a bagged lunch or Beull was describing his own lunch sack but was convinced to put it in Lee's hands.  I don't know... the bag is where it all gets a bit messy... but at very least, I think the bag only being produced AFTER Buell mentions one in his affidavit and it not being photographed in situ, are grounds for suspecting there was no such sack before the time Buell was polygraphed.

Nicely done, Greg. Perhaps he would like to assist in writing my movie "Feral Buell's Day Off"? He has talent.

Greg,

I fail to see why "A" would need further translation. Is it appreciably different down under?

Or did I miss something?

Greg,

I'm assuming you've read Ian Griggs' essay entitled, "The Paper bag that never was."

Tell your son he writes well.
