JFK: A President Betrayed Empty JFK: A President Betrayed

Wed 06 Nov 2013, 4:31 am
Jim DiEugenio introduced the trailer for this new documentary over at the Deep Politics forum.

Is it possible someone has finally produced something credible?

Martin,

I agree with you because this looks like it may be an interesting documentary.  We will instead be force fed Killing Kennedy on National Geographic.  It's still quite telling that a film about some of the most important events in recent human history and one that is narrated by none other than Morgan Freeman is treated with such a limited pick up in the U.S.

I will most certainly be getting my hands on a copy after it is screened on Directv in the U.S. (Nov. 7th) and will get you access to it.

Thanks, Lee. You are a gentleman!

I cancelled my Sky package months ago because I was sick of paying for shit TV so I thankfully won't be suffering through Killing Kennedy either.

Though for some reason I did watch The Smoking Gun on youtube...wish I hadn't...

After reading and watching so much bullshit about JFK and his presidency by too many dickheads, it sure is heartening to see something like this being produced.

Great to see Khrushchev's son chipping in too. I only hope those of us down here in Australia will be able to view it.

So did anyone with Directv see this yesterday? (I have disconnected my TV, have no cable or satellite, by choice, going on 11 years now -- I did it right after witnessing the media spectacle that was the Iraq invasion and hearing then editor of Newsweek Meacham on the PBS Newshour bloviate about how GWB's foreign policy was just like JFK's; that was the last straw),

I saw.

Worth seeking out. Plenty of interesting and insightful recollections and analysis by about a dozen historians. There may be some revelations for those who are not deeply immersed. Superb documentary film making; undoubtedly a labor of love for director Cory Taylor whose previous works include 2009's The Power of The Powerless and 1998's Avalanche: The White Death for which he won a Prime Time Emmy for Sound Editing.

This film focuses on the familiar Cold War crises of a young president increasingly at odds with his military/intelligence professionals. Some of the most compelling parts of the film are contemporary interviews with the men who served as Nikita Khrushchev's and President Kennedy's translators during the Vienna summit of June 4, 1961, Viktor Sukhodrev (Khrushchev) and Alexander Akalovsky (JFK). Candid recollections from the daughters of Norman Cousins who accompanied their father to meet Khrushchev, and commentary from Khrushchev's son are also new.

The filmmakers have chosen to make no stated inference about the circumstances of President Kennedy's assassination. I believe JFK: A President Betrayed will be a valuable resource to anyone, especially those whose lives began after his death, for assessing the context and meaning of his presidency and his life.

I'm hopeful it will soon be available on DVD.
