Jeffrey Sachs was not up to JFK Empty Jeffrey Sachs was not up to JFK

Disappointing book for me. For reasons I describe at length.

In these days of Rakove and Muelenbeck, this was not up to snuff.

As Al Rossi wrote me, was JFKU a double edged sword?

This was a fair review, in my opinion.  There's also an excellent discussion in the comments section at amazon books from Vin Bell, who gave it three stars.

.......

Peter Janney: Well, this is James DiEugenio at his best or at his worst, however you want to look at it. As I've said many times, I think there is an effort out there for this guy, Mr. DiEugenio, to attempt to destroy the credibility of anyone who comes along who doesn't fall into line behind Mr. DiEugenio. I've confronted him in various articles that have been published on the web. He certainly trashed my book as he's trashed any number of books and so I make it a point to ignore people like this as best as possible. I-I don't think James DiEugenio is all he believes that he is and I have had a number of arguments with people, uh, in terms of how they just obsequiosly follow him and hang on every word, I think that's a very dangerous habit to get into. ......

Nice post, Tom.  Thanks.  And your online photo doesn't look like Phillip Seymour Hoff at all anymore.  Change your stylist?

Thanks, Mark, but  yer making me blush! Truth be told, I've developed a man crush  on this one....I just melt when I hear him say, "a high government official speaking off the record told me to announce,....."

Jeffrey Sachs was not up to JFK Tootsie-13

whoops...how did that get in the post....I was referring to this "hunk.":

Jeffrey Sachs was not up to JFK Starr

I went with his 1971 high school photo for my avatar, though.
I guess being a security state muppet prematurely ages a man.

Dangerous? Dangerous?

dan·ger·ous
: involving possible injury, harm, or death : characterized by danger
: able or likely to cause injury, pain, harm, etc.

"Dangerous" my ass. If there's anything "dangerous," it's Janney's hyperbole. Nobody fawns over DiEugenio; they're just receptive to logic and common sense. Something Janney doesn't provide.

Last year, prior my enlightenment (before ROKC), I bought Sister Mary Elephant's Mosaic. I made it about halfway through the book before I decided it wasn't worth going any further. It was obvious to me that this guy got a boner just thinking about Sister Mary. Janney made it sound like Sister Mary led JFK around by the dick. Timothy Leary, drugs…no, stop. Not for me.

Then when I read some real reviews, they confirmed with facts my gut instincts.

I guess I live dangerously.

Wasn't Barbara bureau chief at Jane's Sinking Ships, or am I confusing her with the infantry on the ground?  I have no defense for my ignorance, a full-blown case, it would seem.  Am starting to sound like Harry Dean, to be mean.

Bingo! Mark. Barb Starr seemed like an alien who become a trusted DC muppet, but you are correct. When I saw the Janes connection and the fact that her wikipedia bio had no personal info, I went to work. She comes from Granada Hills, Calif. She has a sister who majored in economics at Northridge, they have the same alma mater. What happened to her between 71 and now. I had thought she was a man in drag.

BTW, did you catch that nuance in the reply you got back in january from Barb J. on alt.jfk? She called you Gary, She suspects you are Gary Loughran, the admin bounced by Simkin for criticizing his authoritarian unmasking.

And Stan, chew on this, please.:.

......So it's not impossible that after this interview of August 23 in Hollywood, Janney visited the Hayward University and went to northern California to meet Mitchell on August 27. Was there coordination between Janney, Scully and maybe even Albert Doyle about this "launch of new Mitchell data" in August this year?.......

And just like Janney, Leo Damore didn't follow-up too much on his own Mitchell research, including his phone call with him.

Mark O'Blazney, Leo Damore's research assistant for more than two years, was interviewed by Peter Janney in 2008.
Mark O'Blazney told Janney that Damore had even taped his Mitchell phonecall:
Quote:
He told me he'd taped the call with Mitchell. That day at lunch he had the transcription already completed and kept referring to it.

(Mary's Mosaic, p.331)
Yet, that tape was never found. Damore passed away in 1995: he had two full years to publish anything about his "shocking" Mitchell phone call. Which he didn't. ......

I "met" Mark on that thread, presided over by Culto, a very smart and amazing researcher who spotted the contradictions in Crump's loyer's four different versions of Crump's alibi witness, Vivian. He lined up quotes from her book, from Leo Damore, from what she told Nina Burleigh, as well as a fourth version told to another source. Loyer Dovey Roundtree claimed her investigator had a hard time locating Vivian and she refused to sign an affidavit, even with Crump's life in the balance, she told Burleigh she never located Vivian, she is also quoted saying Crump went to Vivian's house and she drove them to the canal area where they had sex and drank beer. Culto's one drawback is he firmly believes the assassinations of JFK and Oswald were staged events. I do agree that Jackie did not have enough blood stains on her legs and her butt in photos of her disembaring from AF-1 in DC, but we part ways after that.....

I read Janney's book with interest until I had moved several pages into it.

Elephant Man's Mosaic was a long string of mis-remembered passages about his surrogate mother figure. Lousy writing but I slogged my way through to the end. You would have missed the wonderful bonding scenes he had with other CIA brats with lousy childhoods... a real tear-jerker for sure. Well, at least the jerk portion.

I wish I had the common sense to stop reading it about the distance in as you did. It was a waste.
