The Education Forum

As you guys have been aware I've been a bit quiet over the last few weeks.  One reason was to recharge my batteries and a second reason was to grab my posts from the Education Forum.  So far I have managed to get about 20% of them but today I saw that John Simkin has posted this:

One of them, Gary Loughran, actually used the thread to carry out an attack on me. In real life, I have surrounded myself with kind, supportive family and friends. My life is really good. Yet on the Forum I have to take this abuse. I can no longer endure the stress this creates. I have therefore decided to close it down and you can all go away and create a Forum that is more to your liking. "

Now that the knob head has closed access to multiple thousands of incredibly important posts that have been placed there by other people how the fuck do we get them back?

Who needs the CIA, the NSA and lapdog multinationals when the Internet has the likes of John Simkin?

Okay, so you can still log in but if you've been banned you can no longer access anything.  We'll wait and see what happens when it "closes down."

Glad you at least had the foresight to start getting some of work. Hope you prioritized and copied what you thought to be the most important first. 

If it does close - and for those without access now - I wonder what the legality of the situation is? As the authors of the material, I assume members would retain copyright of what they posted. But if that is the case, where do you stand with being denied access to it?

I never did get any where near all my posts. I left all the ones that were part of someone else's thread and gave up on finding all my own threads. The forum was just too difficult to search and using google was hit and miss as far as finding my own threads (as opposed to ones I had contributed to).

I started copying then deleting the material but even after a few hours it became a pain in the arse so I just started copying.  The problem then became the sheer volume of posts on certain threads so I began printing the whole thread and putting them into folders.

I really don't know the legality of the issues involved in all of this but I am deeply suspicious of its timing and the appearance of Hank Albarelli who I'm guessing said much more in his emails to Simkin than Simkin let on.  As a astute member there noted, Albarelli's first posts on the EF were far more insulting to the entire membership there than anything Scully or DiEugenio ever wrote.  The whole thing is a sham.

Just as long as I get my own material then I have no control over what the crying bastard does with the forum but if there is a chance it goes completely kaput then we need to start getting some of the special posts and I think an idea would be to go by author.  Robert Howard's stuff needs to be saved along with Bill Kelly's.  Other members should include Steve Thomas and William Weston and Duke Lane's.

What I am doing right now is adding a forum for old Ed Forum posts as an archive. As such, it will not be open for posting.

What I do need is volunteers to collect the material and accept copied material from other members, so that it can be reposted here.

The volunteers will be the only ones allowed to post.

Any takers?

Hi Lee. Nice to see you back here. Simkin is a bloody joke! First he defends Dickheads like Lifton, then decides to close down the entire forum, FFS! I sure hope that the work by all the hard working researchers on the forum will be salvaged.

What I have long suspected seems to be being borne out. JS simply prefers style over substance.

John would also see that observation as an attack - which it is not - the evidence for it could not be clearer - so it's just a statement of fact.

That is another problem - that he displays real (or faked, according, to Gary L) hypersensitivity to every mild rebuke of his ideas, while simultaneously expecting the poor plebs on the forum to be grateful every time the likes of Lifton lied about, belittled or lectured them in the most nauseatingly condescending manner imaginable.

Like Gary, I am at a complete loss in trying to fathom JS's "old fashioned values". I can only take a wild guess that it has something to do with his self-proclaimed status as raised a "respectable working class" person. 

I was raised just plain old "working class". My father was a concreter forever in debt because he himself was terrible at chasing money from the big companies he contracted to. Seven kids. Always on the move to keep ahead of debt collectors. My father left me with one ingrained trait. Always stick up for principles, no matter what. See, when you're dirt poor - and my first home indeed, had a dirt floor - principles are all you have to preserve your dignity.

"Respectable working class" to me sounds a lot like the type of working class that the Ruling Class would love.

 We could infect the whole community with his "help"! (with his passion for the case, of course)

Actually have had second thoughts. There may be legal issues without permission because it would include possible copying/use of trademarks and of copyright material belonging to John.

Hasan, speaking only for myself, having cut loose from the Ed Forum, I have a little more time to work on my own 3 JFK related sites.   

In any case, I'm basically through with posting new material. I've done it for over 10 years. Time to find a new way to try and make a difference, and a book is the easiest option for me. The early books had an impact. Douglass' book broke through some media barriers. Jim's revised book is creating new interest. I may not be in their league as a writer, but maybe I can position myself as the new Harold Weisberg! (Harold knew he was no great shakes as a scribe).

If not for the above, I'd readily take up the invitation.

All you need do is copy the ones you would like archived. Could be yours or someone else's - but if someone else's, you'll need to be reasonably confident that person wouldn't mind.

Then send to me at forumarchives at hushmaildotcom 

(Remove "at" and put @ - remove "dot" and put "."

In the meantime, muck around with this editor till you get the hang of it.

Quick tip. You can quote in the person being replied to, but until they fix the bug, you can only add your own reply inside that quote box.

Alternative is that you can copy and paste what you want to quote, highlight it, then hit the quote button which looks like a cartoon quote. It will produce a pop up so you can put in the name of the person you're quoting, and then click the 'insert" button.

Secondly, the quality of posting there has been, from what I've seen so far, pretty low. It seems to be populated by the types who'll believe anything and won't listen to reason.

I won't join the DPF for one very simple reason; Albert Doyle.  The guy wrecks my swede...

Greg has kept his forum ticking over with a handful of very like minded people.  The small group who are here want to really research things and not argue the toss and go around in circles.  You are someone who, like us, is searching for the truth so believe you will find your stay here enjoyable.

Hopefully, we can encourage some of the more constructive and balanced EF refugees to join and really get the cogs turning.

I'm urging Greg to rename the forum "The No Lifton's, Trejo's, or Carroll's Forum" with a tag line of "Sane Research for Sane People"

Let me be the first to welcome you to the forum. Glad you joined. I actually asked Jim to join this forum yesterday via email. He said he will, but only after he is finished with his new book. I think you'll find lots of valuable information here.
