The Murder of Shirley Finn
Tue 07 Mar 2017, 8:20 am
Don't know if this is viewable overseas, but well worth a look.
A Brothel madam was murdered in Perth in the 1970's with the case quickly closed as unsolvable by police.
It is now known that she was paying up to a $1,000 a week to corrupt cops before her execution style death which happened after she threatened to name names at a tax hearing unless she was given some help to escape trouble with the tax office.
One of the cops she was allegedly having an affair with, went on to become a police commissioner, and then State Premier (equal to a governor). He ended up in prison on unrelated bribery charges.
One of the most chilling moments was in a recorded telephone call between a journalist and the cop taking the protection money. He was asked what went through his head when he heard Shirley Finn had been murdered. He answered "not the same thing as went through her head" and started laughing...
What this show does though is again demonstrate what was happening back in the days. Cops were simply a law unto themselves.
