The Pont St Esprit poisonings

This is one of those (hopefully) interesting tidbits tucked away in the footnotes.
I started out to check the claims being made by Hank Albarelli regarding Pont St Esprit half expecting to find it all a bit unconvincing. Instead, I found reports of 3 other mass poisonings around France during the exact same time frame - all ostensibly from different sources.
In St Galmier, 100 were poisoned by ice-cream.
The region surrounding Poitiers had several score poisoned by bad meat from a butcher.
And at Chateaudun, another 100 fell ill from eating the meat of a slaughtered sick horse.
Maybe someone can calculate the odds of 4 mass poisonings - all in one country - all at the same time - all from different vectors - all being coincidental.
(The Pont St Esprit poisonings were said to have been caused by ergot in flour used at a bakery)
