William Szili and Senator Richard Schweiker

Szili was stationed at Guantanamo when he was awoken one night to help dispose of the body of Ruben Lopez. For his troubles, he was later confined to a psychiatric ward, threatened that he had to keep quiet about the murder of Lopez, and then ousted from the Marines. Eventually, in an effort to return to duty, he contacted Senator Schweiker who demanded an inquiry into the affair. However, Schweiker backed off after a (still) secret meeting held with top brass, and the story, which had been labelled by Jack Anderson as one of the most explosive incidents of the long Cuban crisis, disappeared from the newspapers.
