essays

As I said in a recent thread, the app I was using to embed pdf essays at my personal site went haywire, causing the essays to go offline and stop me accessing the admin area.

Finally got back in and deleted the app, but it has left me with a bit of work to do to get the essays back up.

Since it is topical, I have started with my Tippit 2 cents worth.

I tested it before posting and just tried it again.Worked both times.

If you click the link at the essays page, it should come up initially with a "download" button so you can download and read later. But it also should then load the essay in a reader on that page. Might take a little while to load though.

If anyone else has the same issue, please advise. In the meantime,Jake, can you try it again and see if what I outlined here, happens?

Just an app available in wordpress.

Were you able to see the essay?

I just tried on my phone and it still shows the old pages on that. Een after deleting cache. I assume though,it will catch up in a few days.

I was able to login and download the Tippit Essay to my computer. I'm not sure if I was meant to be able to view it online or not at the site.

You should be able to download it and read it at the site. It may take a while to load. What sort of device are yoh using?

My PC....Windows 10 updated and working properly - well at least as far as I know.

Now, if I have to login to that page to see them, then I'm not going to do that. But if you don't have to login and the PDF links are supposed to be there, they're not. My question is why would you use some whiz-bang "embed" app for a simple PDF? I do this for a living and it makes no sense to try to make something fancy when simple is the easiest way to go, especially for the user.

The best way to test your PDFs is go to one on your server and copy and paste the full link here. If someone here clicks on the link and it opens in the browser, then that confirms the PDF works. If it does, great - then copy the full URL, put some click here text on your above essays page and then publish the page.

Here's an example of what I mean:

Okay. That is the issue, I logged out and could no longer see it.  That is not supposed to happen. It is supposed to be visible to all.

The app is just an embedded PDF reader.

It doesn't seem to mate. Of course I'm no expert and it could be just my fumble fingers when it comes to tech but that's the way it appears - just so you know.
