First topic message reminder :
Fred Korth
Let’s start this by looking at Joe Cooper. Cooper was a top notch private investigator, former cop and undercover operative for the FBI into the Klan. He had even foiled an assassination attempt on Hubert Humphrey in that undercover role.
By 1966, Joe Cooper was off on his own Kennedy investigation, focusing on Naval Intelligence. From 1966 to 1975, the detective put together bits and pieces of strange coincidences that he felt pointed to U.S. Naval Intelligence being involved in the Kennedy assassination. Looking at that angle as early as 1966 I think made him well ahead of his time.
An intensely patriotic man, Cooper felt he had to do whatever he could to help find the truth. "I love my country, but this was not the way to change it by killing a president," he said.
Cooper was convinced that Lee Harvey Oswald was a Naval Intelligence agent, and was certain that nine mysterious passengers on a cruise on the aircraft carrier Shangri-La sponsored by Secretary of the Navy Fred Korth in August of 1963 had something to do with the assassination.
Memo to Jim Garrison. I have bolded relevant sections:
From: Andrew J. Sciambra, Assistant D.A.
To: Jim Garrison, District Attorney
Re: Interview of Joseph Cooper, Baton Rouge, La. Relative to Lee
Harvey Oswald
I interviewed Cooper who informed me that he and Marguerite Oswald communicate with each other by telephone from time to time. He said the last time he talked to Marguerite Oswald was about a month ago after he got out of the hospital.
Marguerite Oswald's private telephone number in Dallas, Texas is: A/C 817-732-6839.
Cooper said that he has established a fine relationship with Marguerite and would be glad to go to Dallas and talk to her for us.
In addition to some of the information which he has given us in the past, Cooper said that Marguerite told him that she called Clem Sehrt after the assassination and asked him to help her son. Sehrt informed her that he no longer practiced law. She said she had known Sehrt and Victor Schiro when she was living in New Orleans.
Marguerite told Cooper that she is very suspicious of Fred Korth and told him that Lee's discharge from the Marine Corps was handled by Fred Korth. [Written in the margin in Garrison's distinctive pen is: "Great Job! General Dynamics thru bank"]
Cooper said he found out that the house Marguerite was living in at the time of the assassination belonged to a close friend of Fred Korth, a Mrs. Mary E. McCarthy. Cooper said Marguerite also told him that Fred Korth played a part in Lee's life but did not explain any further.
Cooper said Marguerite also asked him some questions about Lee's CAP outfit that he was unable to answer.
In summary, Cooper suspected that Korth planned the assassination with 9 others on board the Shangri-La in August 1963. That’s all but impossible to verify of course, though some research on the others on board may shed further light. That’s by way of saying that Korth’s involvement does not hinge on this aspect.
More telling is Marguerite’s suspicion of him and her claims that he played a role in Lee’s life including that he aided in Lee’s fraudulent early out from the Marines. I think that is extremely plausible.
Korth by the way, was on the side of the Generals during the Missile Crisis and supported military action as opposed to the blockade and back channels.

as usual I am just lurking here, and am out of my depth in terms of this amazing research; but I do have something which is about as close as I can imagine to a smoking gun about Oswald and ONI. Or maybe just a very warm gun (which as we all know is happiness).
Back in the early 1990s a friend of mine gave me a name and phone number of a guy he knew who lived in Minnesota, and said "call this guy, he knew Oswald." So I called his friend - and we spoke 3 or 4 times over the next year or two. He was very nervous but not evasive, and here was his story: in the late 1950s he was in the Navy and was in the hospital at Balboa (a naval base) where, he told me, he met Lee Harvey Oswald. They spent some time together and Oswald told him he was working for the Office of Naval Intelligence, and Oswald tried to recruit this guy, to no avail. He also told me he had written a letter home to his mother later on after the assassination telling her about this.
He wouldn't go any further, or agree to a public interview with me, but he was extremely credible. First of all, he clearly was not one of those late witnesses who had read all about conspiracy aspects of the JFK assassination and was trying to blow up his own place in history. He had, as I said, no interest in going public - and remember, this was maybe 1992 when NO ONE was talking about Oswald and ONI. Also he clearly knew little about LHO outside of this encounter; he told me Oswald "was always talking about Russia," and when I pointed out that LHO had gone to Russia sometime afterward, he clearly was genuinely surprised and had no idea about the so-called "defection." He was completely uninterested in any kind of personal promotion and was definitely not a "buff."
And that was it; I tried, some years later, to get some other people interested in this guy but got nowhere (I was particularly surprised that Bill Simpich, who likes to act NOW as though LHO and ONI are a great discovery, hasn't credited me, because I told him about this quite a long time ago and he had no interest in it).
So that's it - and I have always thought it might be relatively easy to see if there are any records of LHO - and this guy - at Balboa. Either way, I absolutely believe this guy, particularly because he told our mutual friend the same basic story at least 10 years earlier.

no, his initials are GG, and I think he is still alive, though he is about 79 and still up, I believe, in Minnesota. This guy has never gone public in any way; though apparently he has the same last name as someone who came up in Walter Brown's research, but it's not the same guy as that either. I haven't spoken to him in maybe 15 years. I did, as I remembered late last night, talk to Gaeton Fonzi about him at the time, and he was very interested; but the guy asked me, years ago, not to call him any more. I am, however, thinking about calling again. I really thing he's important but I doubt it will ever come to anything.

Interesting that this contemporaneous article has Marge living at 3704 Crestline Rd Fort Worth as at May, 1965 - a house owned ny a Mrs Carter who Marge identifies as a friend of Korth.barto wrote:Owwww Marge....

Yet this is what the H & L Brains Trust alleges:
On February 13, 1963 the property [2220 Thomas Place, Fort Worth] was purchased by Mary Ann McCarthy, allegedly a close friend of Fort Worth attorney Fred Korth. Korth represented Edwin Ekdahl in his 1947 divorce from Marguerite Oswald, became Secretary of the Navy, and resigned his position only one month before the assassination. The 1964 and 1965 Fort Worth city directories show the tenant in apartment "B" as M. C. Oswald. In 1978 the property was sold to John H. Clarke and soon the small duplex was torn down and replaced by a new two story, wood frame building.
-------------------
On April 13, 1965, Joe McCarthy advised te FBI that he had rented 2220 Thomas Place to Marguerite from 1962 or 63 and that Marguerite had contacted him that on that date and advised she had moved but had refused to give him her new address - which the FBI then acquired from an informant at Southwestern Bell.
Did Marguerite move from Thomas Place and refuse to provide her new address after finding out the owners were friends of Korth?
Blunty's doc also alleges she was fired from her job in November 1963 by a Mrs Carter - another friend of Korth.
Further, the doc also indicates Marguerite was very interested in Korth's divorce and the timing of it in regard to the assassination.
Marguerite should have been hired by Garrison.
She has the divorce dates wrong but I do believe the divorce was a means of putting further distance between himself and Roy Truly.

Allen,
thanks for the additional info.
I asked because this guy had a similar story.
https://www.maryferrell.org/showDoc.html?docId=10546#relPageId=6&tab=page
Had been in Balboa Hospital
Was acquainted with Oswald at Santa Ana
Oswald was always talking about going to Russia.
---------------
My main concern with the story you heard is that I don't think intel agencies recruit that way, using low level guys acually telling prospects they are with an intel agency. Initial approaches are always for evaluation of a prospect and the prospect would only be told who the interest was from, once suitability was determined - and even then it would come from an ONI officer. Here you have a young agent rather than an oficer doing the recruiting and spilling the beans to a person who ultimately rejects the offer, but now knows who you are and who you work for. That is potentially a very bad situation.
I would tend to think if Oswald made a pitch for this guy, it was part of some fantasy, or Oswald himself was being lied to by others about his own recruitment. That second option is a theme some researchers have explored regarding Oswald in New Orleans. I think that is a credible possibility with your guy's story as well as later in NO.

Korth would end up being Marjorie Merriweather Post’s lawyer and her escort. Godfrey McHugh would be a trustee of her estate. McHugh would retire near her home, Mar-a-lago, in Palm Beach, Florida.
She owned a home in NW Washington, DC - Hillwood, which is now a museum housing her artifacts. Many of which she acquired through a dubious deal with Joe Stalin when her husband Joseph Davies was Ambassador to the Soviet Union in the late 1930’s. She replaced a wall in Hillwood with a window so she could have a direct view of the Washington Monument.
Her home in New York State, Topridge, was a giant lodge that guests were flown to on her private plane, then taken across a lake and then a cable car to the lodge where each would have a private butler during their stay. Very secluded. Godfrey McHugh used to fly on her plane. Oh, and Godfrey flew on Air Force One too. Big deal. Marjorie lived large and entertained the world’s elite.
The ladies in the Georgetown Ladies Social Club never invited her to their parties that were only attended by newspapermen, CIA officials and other government and business types. They knew she wouldn’t come. But they never turned down an invitation she extended from Hillwood. She knew and entertained heads of state... you don’t hear much about her anymore.
Godfrey was born and raised in Europe. He went to college there.
Marjorie’s art and antique interest reflected her interest in European royalty. Marie Antoinette’s desk with secret compartments. Godfrey and Fred Korth were in with her. Which is unusual because she was very selective of who she hung around with.
Godfrey and Fred?
Go figure.

McHugh’s daughter described her parents as “dear friends” of Marjorie Merriweather Post and how they used to fly to Palm Beach from Washington on her jet. She mentions that McHugh’s parents (her grandparents) kept a boat at a dock in Palm Beach.
Ms. Post had hosted the pro Nazi Duke and Duchess of Windsor on her yacht. Clay Shaw’s Company PERMINDEX was connected to European Fascists and Royals.
A friend of my father’s said that near the end of WW II he and my father were hiding in the dumbwaiter of an inn on Cape Cod. A meeting was supposed to take place. Deck chairs were set out on the patio. It involved a German submarine that was supposed to land off the coast. The sub was sunk. The meeting never happened. I read later that Dutch Princess Juliana was involved in this. The sub was in contact with the US State Department on a secret diplomatic frequency, this was to coordinate the meeting. It is thought this involved a plan to end the war and depose Hitler. Juliana’s husband is Bernhardt, founder of the Bilderburger Group. The giant sub is still there but the salvage attempts have stalled.

And for the article about Palm Beach - Google: On the market: A cozy one-bedroom pied-a-terre has abundant charm.

Was Korth’s motivation escaping criminal charges for the TFX scandal or loss anticipated profits from TFX sales if JFK withdraws US from Vietnam or both?

YouTube: GENERAL McHUGH’s OBSERVATIONS AT PARKLAND AND BETHESDA
Godfrey McHugh’s voice! Apparent English was a second language for McHugh. He was born and raised in Europe. Went to college in France. He sounds French here. But David Lifton, on p. 400 & 420 of his 1980 paperback said he had a Scottish brogue. McHugh supported the Warren Commission and questioned Lifton’s questions, criticizing them in words like “insane” and “idiotic” which came through as “idyaaatic” in his brogue! McHugh reminds me of Henry Kissinger. Both born outside the US. Both ending up well placed.
Kissinger involved with Rockefeller, among whose many interests is his Colonial Williamsburg Foundation, collecting and promoting everything Colonial American ( read: Royal connected, landed gentry, English, Dutch...)
McHugh involved with Marjorie Merriweather Post, a biographer titled her book “American Empress.” Ms. Post was determined to preserve the European royal heritage.
In photographs McHugh looks distant, detached, like he couldn’t decide which persona was appropriate for the situation.
The book “The Secret Architecture of Our Nations Capital” describes the royal connection of the founding fathers, and their Freemasonry.
The Order of the Cincinnati were gentry. Membership in it today requires a connection to those early members.
There was opposition to the Cincinnati back then because it was an elite group, and it was feared it would be a group that evolved into lineage membership. It did. Opponents said it was in opposition to a Democracy. But, it still exists. These secret societies. JFK was concerned about them and their influence in a Democratic society.

Godfrey was an aide to Hoyt Vandenberg, who in 1946 was the first Director of the Central Intelligence Group, the CIG, the predecessor of the CIA in 1947. Hoyt had extra clout because of his uncle, Senator Arthur H. Vandenberg was a big shot Republican and from an old Dutch family. Godfrey’s biography is sparse during the 1950’s, then he turns up as JFK’s Air Force aide.
This is interesting, Tudor Place, one of the oldest homes in Washington and was the home of George Washington’s granddaughter Mary. She was the older sister of Custis who built Arlington House in Arlington Cemetery. The architect also did other notable Washington buildings. The Lee family is intertwined in this. Other web sites explain the Civil War years.
After the tour, the guide Ellen Charles who is on the board of Tudor House and is ... wait for it... granddaughter of Marjorie Merriweather Post, takes us over to the Hillwood Estate, Marjorie Merriweather Post Close Hutton Davies May’s home.

Eisenhower and Franco. Best buddies. Scenes like this gave the Fascist Franco a tighter grip on the Spanish people and put more distance between him and the world ostracism he so richly deserved for helping Hitler and Mussolini while he claimed neutrality.
The man smiling in the background is Vernon Walters. Brought up in Europe just like Godfrey McHugh. Walters spoke 4 languages. This gave him an inroad as an interpreter at important meetings. He would be Deputy Director of the CIA in the early 70’s and for a short time acting Director of the CIA during a very critical time. Watergate, the Chilean coup, Warren Commission member Jerry Ford becoming President of the United States. Walters sure looks happy in the picture. So do Eisenhower and Franco. Eisenhower was Douglas MacArthur’s aide de camp and there is a picture of them watching and directing the US Army to attack the Bonus Army who had come to Washington DC in the early 1930’s. This was shortly before the Businessmen’s Plot to overthrow President Roosevelt. Eisenhower wasn’t implicated in the plot, but Mac Arthur was.
