Citizen Oswald
Tue 25 Feb 2014, 9:35 pm
From Deam Andrews WC testimony:
Mr. Andrews.
They came in usually after hours, about 5, 5:15, and as I recall, he had alleged that he had abandoned his citizenship. He didn't say how; he didn't say where. I assumed that he was one of the people who wanted to join The Free World and--I represented one or two of them. They had belonged to The World Citizenship--I explained to him there are certain steps he had to do, such as taking an oath of loyalty to a foreign power, voting in a foreign country election, or some method that is recognized defectively as loss of
citizenship. Then I told him, "Your presence in the United States is proof you are a citizen. Otherwise, you would be an alien with an alien registration with a green card, form 990.
What, if anything, apart from Oswald telling him he had abandoned his citizenship, could have led to Andrews assuming Oswald was part of the World Citizenship Movement? Does anyone know who it was that Andrews claimed to have represented from this movement, and what the charges were? It is vaguely reminiscent of Frank Martello's report in which he declares the following exchange took place: "I then asked him if he considered himself a student of the world explaining that I meant by this a person who attempts to find a Utopia on earth and that he said he could be classified as such an individual."
In any case, Oswald knew full well he had not abandoned his US citizenship.

"The World Citizenship"? Did that have any relation to the United World Federation of Cord Meyers?

Not sure Terlin. There were lots of groups on both sides of politics with similar aims. Some were splinter groups, some were in alliances, while others had no known connection to other groups at all.terlin wrote:"The World Citizenship"? United World Federalists were the globbing together of like-minded groups such as Citizens for Global Solutions, Federal Union and other, well, gotta say it, new world order associations (1946-47) There's a great picture by Eisenstaedt of Cord Meyer and Albert Einstein talking shop on how things should be. What went wrong? Anyway, "World Citizenship" and "World Federalists" both have their websites. A League of Nations by any other name never sounded so………… Jeffersonian? NOT!
I speculate Citizen Oswald was probably a solipsistic nihilist, living in his Own Private Texas. I've been wrong before, though, so there's a caveat.
