Re: RFK assassination, Marcus Crahan & R. Gordon Wasson Empty Re: RFK assassination, Marcus Crahan & R. Gordon Wasson

For anyone interested in the RFK case I figured I'd mention this little tidbit I ran across in a rare book my company is selling. I'm not trying to sell the book or advertise; just thought it might be of interest.

Apparently Marcus Crahan, the medical director of the L.A. County Jail while Sirhan Sirhan was there, knew Robert Gordon Wasson, expert on hallucinogenic mushrooms and documented recipient of CIA funds for research on altered states, mind control, etc. I haven't read up on Wasson's awareness of the CIA funding of his research; I don't know if he was witting or unwitting or anywhere in between. Anyway, his inscription to Crahan, not long after the RFK trial, hints at future mutual mushroom consumption. Here's a photo of the letter, which was tucked inside a personalized, signed copy of Wasson's deluxe book Mushrooms, Russia, and History; it's what booksellers call an interesting association copy:

Very interesting, Roger.

This is from his wiki entry

CIA funding
Wasson's 1956 expedition was funded[8] by the CIA's MK-Ultra subproject 58, as was revealed by documents[5] obtained by John Marks[15] under the Freedom of Information Act. The documents state that Wasson was an 'unwitting' participant in the project.[5]

The funding was provided under the cover name of the Geschickter Fund for Medical Research (credited by Wasson at the end of his subsequent Life piece about the expedition).

Jack Ruby was arrested in Aztec NM in 1958 along with John C Jackson who Jack was helping to fund for "medical experiments".  They were seen by the FBI while in custody and released. The arrest was ostensibly over the non-return of a hire car.

I always suspected it was really drug-related. The release to the mass media of the story of magic mushrooms may have got them searching in Aztec.

The Aztec arrest was covered up.

The FBI interview with Jackson has Jackson not mentioning Ruby being with him.

Then weirdly, in one of the more credible bios on Ruby, it has HIM being arrested in Aztex with no mention of Jackson.
