Robert John Morris Empty Robert John Morris

Sat 13 Aug 2016, 11:40 pm
Another one of my threads from the Web's ROKC forum:

I am starting this thread because I think everyone with a keen interest in the JFK assassination should become familiar with Robert Morris. Morris was a hard-core, extreme right-winger. From 1951 to 1953 and from 1956 to 1958, Morris served as the chief counsel of the Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on Internal Security. He was also a leader of the John Birch Society, and had served as one of (former) General Edwin Walker’s attorneys. When Walker was arrested for his role in the riots at Oxford, Mississippi in October, 1962, Morris convinced a Mississippi grand jury not to indict Walker. Lots of good information on Morris can be found in the following obituary; and in the following thread by Greg at the “old” forum:

http://www.nytimes.com/1997/01/02/nyregion/robert-j-morris-is-dead-at-82-crusader-against-communists.html

https://reopenkennedycase.forumotion.net/t944-robert-morris-timeline-pt-1

https://watch.pair.com/JBS.html

When Walker was ordered to undergo a psychiatric evaluation following the riots, he was examined by Professor Robert L. Stubblefield (my appreciation goes to Greg Parker for allowing me to use the following document in this thread):

https://www.maryferrell.org/showDoc.html?docId=145553&search=%22charles_webster%22#relPageId=224&tab=page

More on the psychiatric evaluation:

As we can see, Professor Charles Webster from Southern Methodist University was Professor Stubblefield’s attorney; and was acquainted with Robert Morris. As Greg has discussed elsewhere, despite being a so-called Communist, Webster was at the DPD on the day of the assassination and was on friendly terms with the DPD. He was also associated with FBI super snitch, William James Lowery; who was running a shoe store approximately three blocks to the West of the Texas Theater when Oswald supposedly ducked into the lobby of Johnny Calvin Brewer’s shoe store (where the two mysterious “IBM” men were) to avoid DPD squad cars going by. As Greg has also discussed elsewhere, Webster may have been the person who provided Oswald with the name and phone number of Communist party attorney, John Abt; with the idea being to further make Oswald look like a Communist:

http://educationforum.ipbhost.com/index.php?showtopic=16252&page=2

More on William Lowery in the following thread at the “old” forum:

https://reopenkennedycase.forumotion.net/t419-william-james-lowery-james-patrick-hosty-and-lee-oswald

Morris was also acquainted with Lawrence Howard of INTERPEN fame; who was involved in gun running and activities against Fidel Castro. As I discussed in the following thread, it is quite likely that Howard was the husky, dark complected man who was driving the Nash Rambler station wagon seen by deputy Sheriff Roger Craig and others following the assassination; and that the Oswald lookalike seen getting into the Station Wagon was Jack Ruby’s multi-purpose employee, Larry Crafard:

http://www.reopenkennedycase.org/apps/forums/topics/show/13250711-my-latest-essay?page=2

In the essay “A league of their own: A look inside the Christian defense league,” researcher David Boylan writes that although Howard admitted to knowing Robert Morris, he was “very reluctant” in doing so. You have to wonder why.

http://jfk.hood.edu/Collection/Weisberg%20Subject%20Index%20Files/T%20Disk/Third-Fourth%20Decade%206-17%20--%2020-93%20Conference/Item%2009.pdf

Another person of interest whom Morris was almost certainly acquainted with was DPD Lt. George E. Butler. As both Lee Farley and I have discussed elsewhere, William Lowery informed the FBI that Butler and Morris were assisting an “ultra-rightist” named Earl William Lively Jr. with (apparently) writing a book which would “stress the Fair Play for Cuba Committee connections of Lee Harvey Oswald.”

http://www.reopenkennedycase.org/apps/forums/topics/show/13189732-earl-william-lively-jr-

I think Morris’ connection to Butler is also important because as I discussed in my essay “Who was behind the assassination?” (under the subheading “Blaming the Jews”) and elsewhere, Butler was most likely involved in Oswald’s murder in the basement of the DPD. Morris was also acquainted with Larrie Schmidt of CUSA (Conservatism USA) fame. Schmidt informed his CUSA cohorts that he had attended a gathering at Morris’ home which he said included the “top young (and some old) conservatives in Dallas.”

http://www.history-matters.com/archive/jfk/wc/wcvols/wh18/pdf/WH18_CE_1049.pdf

As we can see, one of those in attendance was a man Schmidt referred to as “Mr. George Ward, detective, Dallas City Police.” I have not been able to find any proof that a man named George Ward was ever a detective in the DPD. I believe this man was most likely George Butler (who was a detective Lieutenant in the DPD); and that he was using the name “George Ward” as an alias, similar to how Clay Shaw used the name Clay Bertrand as an alias. I don’t think Schmidt confused the name “Butler” for “Ward” as they sound nothing alike. Another thing which makes me think “George Ward” was George Butler is the fact that Clyde Moore; whom Schmidt said was a former PR man for H. L. Hunt (misspelled by Schmidt as T. L. Hunt) was also present at the gathering. According to Butler’s obit in the Oak Cliff Tribune, he (Butler) was a friend and confidante of H. L. Hunt:

http://jfk.hood.edu/Collection/Weisberg%20Subject%20Index%20Files/B%20Disk/Butler%20George%20Lt%20Dallas%20Police%20Department/Item%2001.pdf

Another thing to keep in mind about Robert Morris is the fact that he was the attorney of Joseph Grinnan; one of the organisers of the infamous “black border ad” which I believe was placed into the “Dallas Morning News” newspaper on the day of the assassination to make it look as if Jews were involved in the assassination:

http://jfk.hood.edu/Collection/Weisberg%20Subject%20Index%20Files/H%20Disk/Hunt%20H%20L/Item%2009.pdf

As I discussed in my aforementioned essay, I believe George Butler was also involved in trying to give the impression that Jews were involved in the assassination. I may have more comments to add to this thread over the coming few days when both time and energy allow. This is an interview of Robert Morris in the early 1950s which Gayle Nix Jackson posted to her Facebook page:

When Edwin Walker testified before the Warren Commission, he spoke about the death of a professor William T. Wolf. The following concerning Wolf’s death was posted at the Ed forum by Robert Howard:

Dallas Morning News - April 19, 1963 Fire Death Of Professor Gets Probe

University Park fire investigator's probed Thursday the fire death of William Thompson Wolf, 32 year old history Professor at Southern Methodist University. Wolf's body was found early Thursday in the hallway of his duplex apartment at 6618 Dickens three blocks from the university campus. It marked University Park's first fire fatality for 1963, and only the third for the city in the last seven years. Fire Marshall Fred L. Chambers said the 12:25 A.M. blaze caused about $ 7,000 damage to the front living room and kitchen. He said it appeared Wolf attempted to retrieve some valuables, when he was overcome. Justice of the Peace David L. Johnston ruled death accidental, resulting from burns and fire exposure.

Like Professor Charles Webster, Wolf was a professor at SMU. Living nearby at 6628 Dickens Street when Wolf was killed, was George DeMohrenschildt. On April 19, 1963; very shortly after Wolf’s death, DeMohrenschildt left for New York:

https://www.maryferrell.org/showDoc.html?docId=11132&search=left_Dallas+April+19+1963+traveled+to+New+York+and+Philadelphia+and+then#relPageId=6&tab=page

As Greg pointed out in another thread, there is a good chance that DeMohrenschildt and Morris knew each other:

http://www.reopenkennedycase.org/apps/forums/topics/show/13337226-morris-and-de-morhenschildt

I don’t know what relevance (if any) Wolf’s death has to Oswald or the assassination, but it’s something I find to be rather interesting; and something which I suspect may not have been accidental. Any thoughts?

On November 26, 1963, the FBI received a letter from an attorney named C. Carter Byrd from Florence, South Carolina. Byrd made the false claim that he had seen Oswald state on TV that he wanted John Abt as his attorney:

https://www.maryferrell.org/showDoc.html?docId=56991&search=John_Jacob+Abt#relPageId=119&tab=page

The following is from Byrd’s obituary:

“He was a veteran of the United States Navy, where he served as a Naval Intelligence Officer and was a Pearl Harbor survivor.”

http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=20609391

According to Robert Morris’ obituary (see my first post), Morris served in the U.S. Navy during World War II; during which he was a “commander of counterintelligence and psychological warfare.” Something to keep in mind considering that Morris knew Professor Charles Webster; and that Webster may have been the person who gave Oswald John Abt’s name and phone number.

According to Byrd’s obituary, he was a member of the central United Methodist Church. The following is from the Southern Methodist University’s website:

“SMU was founded by what is now The United Methodist Church, in partnership with civic leaders, and was shaped by the entrepreneurial spirit of the region.”

https://www.smu.edu/AboutSMU

Professor Charles Webster taught law at SMU. Hmmm…

In the following thread at the Ed forum, Greg writes about the arrest of a man named Ashland Burchwell; who was on his way to Oxford, Mississippi with guns to join Edwin Walker during the riots there. As Greg writes, Burchwell had served under Edwin Walker's Psychological Warfare Section in Germany; after which he worked for Walker in Dallas:

http://educationforum.ipbhost.com/index.php?showtopic=6112

http://www.maryferrell.org/showDoc.html?docId=11333&search=Ashland_Burchwell#relPageId=6&tab=page

Burchwell was acquainted with Felix G. Botello; who co-founded the Dallas chapter of the American G .I. Forum with Joe Molina and William James Lowery. Upon his arrest, it was discovered that Burchwell had Joe Grinnan’s name in his address book. As I discussed in my first post in this thread, Grinnan was one of the organisers of the so-called “black border ad” and whose attorney was none other than Robert Morris.

Also listed in Burchwell’s address book was Ray’s Hardware Store; from where Burchwell bought some of his weapons and ammo. Some of you may recall that it was from Ray’s Hardware store where the colt cobra revolver Jack Ruby used to kill Oswald with was purchased. As I discussed in the “Kenneth Croy redux” thread, the revolver was supposedly purchased under the name of DPD detective, Joseph R. Cody, on January 19, 1960. In that thread, I also mentioned that contrary to what we have been told, I think Cody gave Ruby the revolver not too long before the morning of November 24, 1963, for the express purpose of using it to kill Oswald.
