Greg,
You ever read about Dallas' "Shotgun Squads" or "Holloway’s Raiders"?

Wouldn't surprise me in the least if there was an expectation of "donations" from proprietors for this service.
Says at the end he was working on a book about the early days of the force. That would be a very interesting book if it stuck to the facts.

Greg,
I had read about the "Shotgun Squads" many years ago when I first started researching the JFK case.
Apparently they used to hide behind the coolers and burst out weilding shotguns if somebody was trying to steal beer.

Vinny,
It's strange to see your name mentioned in something from sixteen years ago
I guess it's true what they say about the Internet; what you say online never truly dies.
I don't know if it was the reality, but the Shotgun Squads' reputation was, "Shoot first and let the devil sort out the details."

Sorry to be cynical, but my guess would be that they were all about taking out the independent operators (ie those not working for syndicates making regular "donations" to the sheriff and the the homicide and robbery unit.Steve Thomas wrote:Vinny wrote:http://phorum.dallashistory.org/read.php?2,20322

I'll go one further and say that that was why they went so hard after Bonny and Clyde and pinned so many robberies on them. Independents. Decker went after them all until he was down to the last man standing - Floyd Hamilton - and he did a deal with Floyd to get him out early and join the team.
