A Lot On His Mind
Mon 14 Oct 2013, 10:23 am
My first RFK post on the disposable blog has turned out to be more of a work in progress than I'd expected, partly because composing posts on Blogger has become more difficult than it used to be. (If anyone else has experienced similar issues I'd like to hear about it.) But as of right now here's what I've got. Any comments, corrections, criticisms and assertions are welcome.
Sirhan Bishara Sirhan was 24 years old when the attack on U.S. Senator Robert F. Kennedy occurred. For such a young man he seems to have been exposed to a fairly large amount of religious and philosophical influences, as well as "pseudo" varieties of these. Researcher Greg Parker has posted some examples of occult and Rosicrucian influences at his Reopen Kennedy Case Forum (which is gaining a reputation for harboring people not rigid enough for polite society).
There is also evidence of influence from something called Religious Science, also called Science of Mind. In the transcripts of Sirhan's trial testimony, it was brought up that he'd written in one of his notebooks, "I shall begin realizing the sum of $100 as per the instructions of the Bible and Thomas Troward within the next five days or before the termination of this month."

Thomas Troward had been particularly influential in the origins of Religious Science. I had originally stumbled upon this connection while doing an internet search for the "Write It Down" article [url=http://books.google.com.au/books?id=t9Ex5XwDE4IC&pg=PA192&lpg=PA192&dq="Write+It+Down"+Sirhan&source=bl&ots=MwXA4fAClp&sig=YAvbNGe_X99_P3crzERzkd98kw4&hl=en&sa=X&ei=UMMFUv-vJKLbyQGd94DAAQ&redir_esc=y#v=onepage&q="Write It down"&f=false]http://books.google.com.au/books?id=t9Ex5XwDE4IC&pg=PA192&lpg=PA192&dq=%22Write+It+Down%22+Sirhan&source=bl&ots=MwXA4fAClp&sig=YAvbNGe_X99_P3crzERzkd98kw4&hl=en&sa=X&ei=UMMFUv-vJKLbyQGd94DAAQ&redir_esc=y#v=onepage&q=%22Write%20It%20Down%22&f=false[/url] appearing in the Rosicrucian Digest which supposedly influenced Sirhan's automatic writing exercises. I failed to bookmark or copy the link and even a couple months later was unable to find the original source, but the article's author apparently was not a Rosicrucian but a member of Religious Science.

Another area of apparent interest to Sirhan was the Seventh-Day Adventist church. This can be found in "Appendix E: Robert F. Kennedy Assassination Investigation Records Audio Tapes" of the Special Unit Senator (SUS) report, which as a whole should make interesting reading for students of the assassination. In the following, the interview tapes are identified by tape number, name of witness and identification number for witness, date of interview, and brief description of witness ID and their account in interview.
John Weidner (CSA-K112; I-1038; July 1, 1968): "Seventh-Day Adventist and health food store owner who formerly employed Sirhan. Discusses Sirhan's temperament, character, background, and performance as an employee. [Original recorded at extremely low volume.]"
Charles W. Mitchell (CSA-K101; I-2109; August 8, 1968): "Seventh-Day Adventist minister who supervised two church workers who made contacts with Sirhan. Discusses the nature of those contacts, and that Sirhan chose to discontinue the meetings."
Margaret Heacock (CSA-K101; I-2110; August 8, 1968): "Seventh-Day Adventist who had Bible studies with Sirhan. Discusses taking over the assignment, nature of the contacts, and Sirhan's comments regarding his former boss, Mr. Weidner. [Poor quality original. Much background noise.]"
(CSA-K157; Mary Sirhan, I-1027; Adel Sirhan, I-321; August 8, 1968): "Adel and Mary Sirhan reiterate that Mr. Peters, a Seventh-Day Adventist, met regularly with Sirhan for religious discussions."
Henry Peters (CSA-K160 [A-B]; I-2888; August 28, 1968): "Seventh-Day Adventist who conducted Bible studies with Sirhan. Relates the nature and topics of their discussions. [Recorder is left on after the interview is over. Police discuss privately that Peters' interview was worth the trip, and details regarding the Serrano interview. Extreme interference makes understanding conversation very difficult.]"

On Tuesday nights, they sat with Mrs. [Mary] Sirhan in the dining room and covered topics like 'God's Forgotten Riches' and 'The Problems of Sin.'"
An FBI Memorandum dated 8/9/68 from SA [DELETED] to SAC, LOS ANGELES (56-156), Subject: KENSALT [i.e., RFK assassination investigation by FBI; FBI LA Office: 56-156], reads:
"On 8/8/68, a conference was held at the LAPD regarding captioned matter [KENSALT]. Present at the conference and participating therein were the following individuals:
Deputy Chief, ROBERT HOUGHTON, LAPD
Lieutenant MANUEL PENA, LAPD
[DELETED] LAPD
DAVID FITS,
Deputy, Los Angeles County District Attorney
GEORGE STONER,
Chief, Bureau of Investigations,
Los Angeles County District Attorney
Lieutenant ENRIQUE HERNANDEZ,
LAPD
SA [DELETED]
FBI, Los Angeles
"....The purpose of the conference was to discuss the progress made to date in the investigation of the assassination of former Senator ROBERT F. KENNEDY. In the opinion of Lieutenant PENA, who is in charge of the Case Preparation Team, the work of that unit would probably be completed within the next six weeks.....
(p. 2)
"....With respect to the 'medical aspect' of this investigation, it is the intention of Deputy District Attorney JOHN MINER to journey to the States of Michigan and Wisconsin accompanied by Lieutenant ENRIQUE HERNANDEZ of the LAPD (a polygraph operator) and [DELETED] (a prosecution psychiatrist). The trip will be made for the purpose of interviewing TERRY WELCH, currently residing in Michigan, and HENRY PETERS, currently residing in the Jamesville, Wisconsin area. It is anticipated this trip will be undertaken on or about 8/20/68, when Mr. MINER has other commitments in the Cleveland, Ohio area."
The subsequent FBI Airtel (56-156-1610) dated 8/9/68 from SAC, LOS ANGELES (56-156) to SAC, MILWAUKEE, RE: KENSALT, RE: HENRY PETERS and TERRY MICKEY WELCH, reads:
"As a result of continuing investigation being conducted by the LAPD a decision has been made by the Los Angeles County DA's Office to have personnel from the LAPD and the DA's Office proceed to Wisconsin and Michigan to conduct additional interview of HENRY PETERS and TERRY MICKEY WELCH about whom previous information has been furnished to Los Angeles by Milwaukee and Detroit.
"[Three paragraphs about 4-5 lines each blacked out leading on to page 2.]
"SUGGESTED LEADS, MILWAUKEE [DELETED] AT [DELETED] WISCONSIN: Will ascertain current whereabouts and residences of HENRY PETERS [two lines blacked out]
"(2) Will submit request for FBI Identification Record [DELETED] to FBI Laboratory and request that results thereof be expeditiously made available to Los Angeles."
====================
In the interview tapes can also be found a later interview which was apparently needed to help distinguish between Rosicrucian thought and Theosophy.
James Long (I-4637); J.G. Crabbendam (I-4639); (CSA-168 [A-B], CSA-169; January 17, 1969): "President of a L.A. area Theosophical Society, and a guest; joint interview. Long explains the principles of Theosophy, differences between different Theosophical groups, and the difference between Theosophy and Rosecrucianism [sic]."
=====================
Finally, there is also a later interview that may be of considerable significance.
Rev. Jonathan Perkins (CSA-K173; No.1; February 11, 1969): "Friend of Jerry Owen. Vouches for Owen's accountability."
In my original search on any Reverend Jonathan Perkins I found one man by that name who was connected to the Far Right. Links no longer work:

You're a crack-up, Dan. Salud !Dan wrote:Sirhan Bishara Sirhan was 24 years old when the attack on U.S. Senator Robert F. Kennedy occurred. Religious Science sound pretty much the same as theosophy.
You are getting dangerously close to the facts about Sirhan.
The book Lee and I are working on will have the full breakdown on the precedent case (Bogota, 1948), including how the patsy was programmed using these same methods.
It amounts to applying sustained pressure, stress and propaganda on the individual to actually get them to program themselves. In both cases, the patsy fired shots. In neither case were they the actual assassin.
have tried to fix the formatting as much as possible with the links. Not pretty, but they now work.

Thank you for that Greg, at this point I'm just happy if I can get links to work. Too say nothing of one more thing down the memory hole, if that particular radio interview isn't posted n available somewhere then we've lost an important source.greg parker wrote:You're a crack-up, Dan. [Jesus after a while it just boggles the mind how this stuff whirls around]
