Killer Post?
Wed 08 Jan 2014, 4:02 pm
What exactly is that? I saw that number pop up a while back on our avatars, and noticed Lee's high number, immediately thinking -- must be posts which had the quality of a crucial revelation.
And then I noticed I all of a sudden have been awarded two. So it can't possibly have anything to do with content.
Definition, please?

No. Content. But it's obviously based on subjective ideas about content by the person hitting the +.
They're called "reputations" on other forums. I thought I'd switch the focus onto the posts rather than the person.
If you don't rate your posts deserving of those 2 pluses... I'll have to disqualify you from voting.

I have no way of knowing what floated whose boat. It's totally unscientific, totally unnecessary, and potentially demeaning to someone who believes they are not getting enough +'s.
But... well... it was there to use and might be some sort of helpful guide for guests browsing the forum.

Well, I vote for turning the feature off. How misleading is it that I have 2 and you have 1? This sounds like the college teaching student evaluation where the substance of what the teacher is doing is too often obscured by the natural attraction for fluff and fun.

How about we give it a trial period - say another month? One thing I could do is extend the ability to add the + (or -) to guests as well as members. That may help balance any bias. If members aren't happy with it, we'll dump it. In hindsight, it was something I should have discussed with Hasan and Richard implementing anyway.

Greg, you fellows are the collective bosses. I just think it a shame that it may give others, especially outsiders, the wrong idea about what counts here. I'm all in favor of frivolity. It is a necessary antidote to life, which is absurd and capable of driving you crazy if you have no sense of humor. But reputation ranking on a site like this ought to be directed at real contributions to the goal, which is to "Reopen the Kennedy Case", as stated.
Just my $0.02.
Just my $0.02.

Okay. I've killed it. What you say make sense. there was no way to control how or why it was used so that it was concentrated on identifying posts/posters making significant strides toward the ultimate goal.Albert Rossi wrote:Greg, you fellows are the collective bosses. I have left the "thank you" button -- but mostly out of curiosity because it hasn't been used yet, as far as I know.
