Larry Crafard, Lawrence Howard, Herbert Leon Lee etc.

Another thread of mine from the Webs' ROKC forum
Let’s now once again take a look at the very suspicious and mysterious Larry Crafard. As I discussed in my essay Did Larry Crafard kill J.D. Tippit? Crafard’s alibi for the time JFK was assassinated doesn’t hold up; and that he was possibly the man who was seen by Roger Craig, Marvin Robinson, Roy Cooper etc. getting into the Nash Rambler station wagon following the assassination. As I also discussed in the essay, Lawrence Howard (of INTERPEN fame) was quite possibly the man who was driving the Rambler (see under the subheading Was Crafard living at 1026 North Beckley?).
Crafard’s cousin, Gale Ann Cascaddan, told the FBI that Crafard “apparently” obtained his job at the carnival in Allegan, Michigan (which was destined for Memphis, Tennessee) through his brother-in-law, Chauncey Ingersoll, who was employed by the carnival. What’s interesting is that Ingersoll had been imprisoned for burglary which involved the theft of firearms:
https://www.maryferrell.org/showDoc.html?docId=11589&relPageId=107&search=Cascaddan_Crafard%20Ingersoll
Crafard told the Warren Commission that he allegedly quit that carnival while in Memphis and joined another one there run by a man named Leonard Wood; and that after he allegedly got fired by Wood, he travelled to Dallas, Texas, and joined the carnival showHow Hollywood Makes Movies, which was run by Bob Craven and “Deke” Miles at the Dallas state Fairgrounds:
https://www.maryferrell.org/showDoc.html?docId=47&relPageId=425&search=Mr_Crafard%20Mickey%20Spillane
It was here that Crafard allegedly first met his future employer, Jack Ruby. Ruby knew Craven and Miles, and according to Crafard, Ruby had invested approximately $150.00 into the show:
http://www.history-matters.com/archive/jfk/wc/wcvols/wh25/pdf/wh25_ce_2250.pdf
https://www.maryferrell.org/showDoc.html?docId=10405&search=Bob_Craven+Jack+Ruby#relPageId=442&tab=page
For quite some time now, I have suspected that some of these carnivals which Crafard joined were fronts for gun running; and that Crafard was a gun runner. This is based on the fact that Chauncey Ingersoll was imprisoned for burglary involving the theft of firearms; and the fact that Ruby was involved in gun running (as many of us are well aware). I will return to Ruby’s gun running activities in a later post. What’s also intriguing (as discussed in my essay Who was behind the assassination?) is that the DPD’s criminal intelligence section was situated at the Fair Grounds, as was the Dallas Civil Defense emergency bunker (with Jack Crichton in charge of its intelligence section). During his interview with the ARRB, Ed Coyle admitted that every member of the DPD’s criminal intelligence section was a member of Army intelligence:
http://jfkcountercoup.blogspot.com.au/2010/11/peter-dale-scott-dallas-copa-2010.html
Coyle probably meant Jack Crichton’s 488th Military Intelligence Detachment; for Crichton admitted during an interview that there were "about a hundred men in that unit and about forty or fifty of them were from the Dallas Police Department."
http://spartacus-educational.com/JFK488mid.htm
Although I am not aware of any direct connection between the 112th MIG and the 488th MID, given that they were both associated with Army intelligence, it really isn’t too difficult to see that there was some connection between the two. Another interesting bit of information is that according to researcher Russ Baker, B.F. McLain was once the head of the Dallas Civil Defense and had “long-standing ties” to Jack Cason. I haven’t been able to confirm any of this, but given that both men were commanders of American Legion posts, it is entirely possible that they did know each other:
http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=8294224
Returning now to Larry Crafard, as I discussed in my essay Did Larry Crafard kill J.D. Tippit?, Crafard was quite possibly the man who was put into the same jail cell as John Franklin Elrod on the day of the assassination; and who identified Lawrence Reginald Miller (one of the two men arrested by the DPD for possession of weapons stolen from the National guard headquarters at Terrell, Texas) as someone who was likely running guns with Jack Ruby (see under the subheading Was Crafard arrested at the Texas Theater?). I also believe that Crafard was likely involved in a plot to assassinate JFK in Houston on November 21, 1963:
http://www.reopenkennedycase.org/apps/forums/topics/show/13175765-volkmar-schmidt-and-the-houston-plot
Let’s now return to Lawrence Howard. Howard’s friend; Richard Monroe Margeson/Magison, told HSCA investigators that after the CIA’s Operation Mongoose had ended, Howard told him that he (and apparently others) were going to do “something very bad that will make the U.S. invade Cuba.” Although Operation Mongoose allegedly ended sometime in early to mid-1964, Margeson/Magison may simply have been mistaken on this point. But what could this “very bad” thing have been? The thought occurs that JFK would be assassinated, and the blame would be placed on someone who publicly gave the appearance of being a Castro sympathiser. Need I elaborate?
I think it’s a safe bet that Howard was involved in operations against Fidel Castro; and was said to be part of a group given the task of locating “appropriate individuals” to assassinate JFK (see pages 11 and onwards of the following):
http://digitalcollections.baylor.edu/cdm/compoundobject/collection/po-arm/id/29407/rec/23
We know that two of Howard’s associates (Loran Hall and William Seymour) were arrested by the DPD in mid-October 1963 for possession of drugs; and were involved in the transportation of weapons with Howard. Following his arrest, Hall was questioned by an FBI agent he claimed was named “Hostel or something,” a military intelligence agent, and a CIA agent:
http://educationforum.ipbhost.com/index.php?showtopic=2363
“Hostel” sounds like Hosty; and given that Hosty was working with Edward Coyle, my money is on the military intelligence agent being Coyle. Hall also claimed that the military intelligence agent tried to “recruit” him. If this was Coyle, I would like to know exactly what it was that he was trying to “recruit” Hall for.
Most researchers are probably familiar with the fact that Dallas gun shop owner, John Thomas Masen, was (according to the FBI) one of two gun shop owners in Dallas who had possession of 6.5 mm Mannlicher Carcano rifle ammo:
http://www.history-matters.com/archive/jfk/wc/wcvols/wh26/pdf/wh26_ce_2694.pdf
Masen was being investigated by ATF agent Frank Ellsworth for his involvement in running guns. Masen was approached by Cuban exiles to supply them with weapons; and claimed that “a series of small sized commando raids” would commence against Cuba in the last week of November, 1963; and that following this, there would be a “large scale amphibious assault against the Cuban mainland.” Masen made this claim to Captain George Nonte; ordinance officer from Fort Hood (who was being investigated for the theft of weapons from Fort Hood), on October 31, 1963:
http://dealeyplazauk.org.uk/pdfArticles/John_Masen.pdf
Were Larry Crafard and Lawrence Howard aware of the planned raids against Cuba which Masen related to Nonte? IMO, yes (keep in mind what Howard allegedly told Richard Margeson/Magison). To be continued…

Re: Larry Crafard, Lawrence Howard, Herbert Leon Lee etc.

November 1, 1963, is an interesting day for me for a number of reasons:
1). It is allegedly the day on which James Hosty first visited Ruth Paine’s home to inquire about where Oswald was working and living:
https://www.maryferrell.org/showDoc.html?docId=34&search=Mr_Hosty+living+working#relPageId=458&tab=page
I think Hosty already knew where Oswald was working; and probably knew where he was living too. I believe Hosty and the FBI conjured this up to give the Warren Commission a hint as to how Oswald allegedly got a hold of his (Hosty’s) name, phone number, and license plate number. But why was this particular day chosen as the day on which Hosty allegedly visited Paine’s home?
2). It is the day on which Hosty apparently received an FBI Airtel concerning John Thomas Masen; and was directed to begin searching for a man using the name George Perrell/Parrel (an anti-Castro Cuban who bought weapons from Masen). Given that Masen told Captain George Nonte about the planned raids against Cuba in late November, 1963 the day before; this is probably what the Airtel he received was about (Nonte had evidently been working as an informant for the FBI and was providing them with information about Masen).

https://www.maryferrell.org/showDoc.html?docId=11250&search=George#relPageId=4&tab=page
3). It is the day on which someone claiming to be Oswald filled out an application form to rent Post office Box 6225 at the Terminal Annex building on Commerce street. “Oswald” wrote his address on the application form as 3610 North Beckley, and listed the Fair Play for Cuba Committee and the American Civil Liberties Union as organisations for which the P.O. Box was being rented.
https://www.maryferrell.org/showDoc.html?docId=11330&search=3610_North+Beckley+Street#relPageId=2&tab=page
4). It is the day (or approximately the day) on which Jack Ruby’s friend, George Senator, moves in with Ruby at Ruby’s apartment at 223 South Ewing Street in the Oak Cliff area of Dallas:
https://www.maryferrell.org/showDoc.html?docId=10405&search=Senator_Ruby+apartment+November+1+1963#relPageId=309&tab=page
5). It is the day on which Herbert Leon Lee claimed he moved out of the 1026 North Beckley rooming house with his friend, James Douglas Watson:
https://www.maryferrell.org/showDoc.html?docId=57751&relPageId=149&search=Herbert_Leon%20Lee%20November%201%201963%20Beckley
6). It is the day (or approximately the day) on which Larry Crafard allegedly moved into the Carousel club, where he was allegedly sleeping in a small room in front of Ruby’s offices:
http://www.history-matters.com/archive/jfk/wc/wcvols/wh25/pdf/wh25_ce_2250.pdf
After giving this much thought and consideration, this is what I think happened. Until around the end of October, 1963, Larry Crafard was probably living with Ruby at his apartment on Ewing Street. He then moved into the 1026 North Beckley rooming house; taking Hebert Lee’s place there. As both Lee Farley and I have discussed, there is good reason to believe that Crafard was living there; not Oswald. As I also discussed in my essay Did Larry Crafard kill J.D. Tippit? there is some indication that Crafard was using “Lee” as a surname when impersonating Oswald (see under the subheading Was Crafard living at 1026 North Beckley?). Some researchers have expressed the belief that the Beckley rooming house was being used as a safe house. I think they are right. I think Hebert Lee and his friend, James Douglas Watson, were quite possibly involved with Ruby and Crafard in running guns. Let’s keep in mind that in 1963, there was a James Watson with an address at 4727 Homer Street, Dallas:
https://www.maryferrell.org/php/marysdb.php?id=9963&search=James%20Douglass%20Watson
This is where Jack Ruby was living in June, 1961:
http://www.history-matters.com/archive/jfk/wc/wcvols/wh23/pdf/WH23_CE_1518.pdf
I don’t know if this is the same James Watson that was living at the Beckley rooming house, but I’ll bet it was! The following is Watson’s interview with the FBI:
https://www.maryferrell.org/showDoc.html?docId=10672&relPageId=537&search=James_Watson%20Trinity%20floor%20laying%201026%20Beckley
I think Crafard was the person who rented P.O. Box 6225; I’m just not sure exactly why he did. I think Crafard screwed up the address when writing it on the rental application. Let’s take into account that he even had difficulty with what his wife’s maiden name was. When he was interviewed by the FBI on November 28, 1963, he claimed her name was Wilma Jean Teanny (see WCE 2250 above). However, he told the Warren Commission that her name was Wilma Jean Case:
https://www.maryferrell.org/showDoc.html?docId=47&relPageId=420&search=Mr_Crafard%20Wilma%20Jean%20Case
With this in mind, it seems entirely possible that he would also screw up the address. I think after Crafard moved out of Ruby’s apartment in late October, 1963, this opened up a vacancy (so to speak) at Ruby’s apartment for George Senator to move in. I think Crafard’s claim that he moved into the Carousel club was a load of crap to cover-up for his real residence; the rooming house at 1026 North Beckley street.
Vinny asked if Crafard was the man at Sylvia Odio’s door step in late September, 1963, with the two anti-Castro Cubans who were soliciting funds against Castro’s regime. Although I think this is certainly possible, I think he may actually have been Herbert Lee. Let’s keep in mind that Lee’s middle name was Leon. More on Herbert Lee can be found in the following thread by Greg at the “old” ROKC forum:
https://reopenkennedycase.forumotion.net/t214-herbert-leon-lee
Returning now to what I wrote above about James Hosty, most (if not all) of us are well aware of his claim that around November 13, 1963, Oswald left him a note allegedly asking him to leave his wife alone following his visits to Ruth Paine’s home. We know that on November 18, 1963, Donnell Whitter/Whittier and Lawrence Reginald Miller were arrested by the DPD for possession of weapons stolen from the National Guard Armory in Terrell, Texas, on November 14, 1963. Given the likelihood that Oswald was placed into the TSBD under the pretense that he was to keep an eye out on Joe Molina (a man with connections to gun runners), I can’t help but think that the note Oswald left for Hosty had something to do with the theft of weapons from the National Guard Armory in Terrell, Texas.
I don’t think I will ever be able to prove any of the above, but the coincidences I discussed are too much for me to swallow as being just coincidences. I will have at least one more post to make in this thread with regards to the whole gun running angle.
1). It is allegedly the day on which James Hosty first visited Ruth Paine’s home to inquire about where Oswald was working and living:
https://www.maryferrell.org/showDoc.html?docId=34&search=Mr_Hosty+living+working#relPageId=458&tab=page

Although I think this is certainly possible, I think he may actually have been Herbert Lee. Let’s keep in mind that Lee’s middle name was Leon. More on Herbert Lee can be found in the following thread by Greg at the “old” ROKC forum:
