Whatever you do, DON'T say she's Russian!

Linnie Mae Randle FBI interview, 28/11/63:

"Mrs. Paine asked me not to mention to anyone that Mrs. Oswald was a Russian. I don't know why."
--------------------------------------

Mr. TOBIAS. And my wife says, "Mrs. Jurek, Mrs. Oswald is Czechoslovakian." Mrs. Jurek says, "All right, speak something. I'm Czech too." She says, "No, we're not Czech, we're Russian, but my husband doesn't want us say that because people will be mean to us."
---------------------------------------
Is it just coincidence that (allegedly) both Ruth and Lee are trying to hide Marina's nationality?
And for what purpose? "People being mean" about it, I guess could be true... but my impression is that Dallas had a small but thriving and respected Russian community and that it would be pretty much understood by locals that these were pro-American White Russians - not dirty little Red ones...
Opinions?

I think you could be right about that, Greg. Especially when we take into account the fact there was a lot of fear and paranoia about communists.

That seems odd. Didn't Lee want Marina to speak only Russian and not learn English?
