The Vacant House
Mon 09 May 2022, 1:34 pm
First topic message reminder :
Is there any way to determine who owned 2511 West Fifth St. in 1963? Is it not a little odd that there was an empty house sitting right next to ground zero in Irving that was never investigated, never searched, and barely even mentioned in the official record? The only two references I know of are from (1) the 12/4/64 report of Irving Postal Inspectors Nieohwner and McCoy; and (2) the WC testimony of James Hosty:
Mr. STERN. Can you show us from Exhibit 430 approximately where you parked your car that day if you recall?
Mr. HOSTY. I don't recall specifically. I do recall that her station wagon was parked in the driveway. There was another car in front of the house, and it is my recollection that I parked, perhaps, here.
There is another house right next door here which was vacant, and I believe I parked in front of the vacant house right next door.
Here's the vacant house right in the center of the photo behind the big tree:
This is just something that has bugged me for a while and was wondering if anyone knows or knows how to find anything out about the property.

Though Reynolds may be thee guy and was funnelled property by Fidelity/Mayflower.
Anything on Western Hills Sub. specifically would sink it. or ties to Myflwr Invst. by Reynolds.
Pkymouth Park is close enough to Ruths you can walk it in few minutes.

He (russle stephens) had eight acres to the West of Mayflower tracks on Kit Story Rd.
The Story family perhaps owned what would be Western Hills track.
The sold off their acreage during the 50's when Irving boomed. Articles about them being down to a couple acres they were trying to hold on to.
Fifth street homes were nothing to brag about.
They were 'newer' track homes, but simple small ranch style quick builds.

The Campbells sold the house to the Paines on May 30 1960
So it appears the Paines were renting the house off the Campbells prior to that date;
Mr. JENNER - You and your husband purchased the home you have there before you went down.
Mrs. PAINE - Oh, no; we stayed at a small apartment for several weeks looking around and then rented for a year, and then we purchased the house we have been renting.
Mr. JENNER - So you purchased that and moved in in 1960, is that about right?
Mrs. PAINE - We first moved into it in the fall of '59.
Mr. JENNER - You rented it and then purchased it.
Mrs. PAINE - The same house; yes.

Even if you go 18 holes, you can't get away from this lot. Officers of the Irving Country Club included Louis Blaylock, Lynn Brown and C B Hardee. There was an Art Schneider too, unknown if he was connected to Clements.

Hey Tony.
Take a wild guess...
Where would the cameraman be standing?
Ed, please have a bit of respect for the investigators. They were doing their darnedest to show us the the best view of Oswald corner. They honestly did try door-knocking the house to the left, but the occupants were down at Irving Sports for the 20% off "staff rate" pre-christmas sale.

Yes and the pickle they found themselves in trying to "address" it.
The photo labeling department had to obfuscate for the neighborhood canvasing detectives.
They asked the commissions publishing editor:
"Can we just note it as View Looking West and not mention the view is from Dial Ryder's wifes home?"

At least they're efficient. Exit interview, toss notes, snap pic. Job done.
